How to outline your field

The map on the Request a Quote page lets you draw the outline of your field on a satellite view, so we can quote it faster. Here’s the short version.

What you’ll see on the map

  • Drawing modeThe map opens in drawing mode. Tap each corner of your field to drop a point.
  • Edit modeOnce you close the polygon, the map switches to edit mode. Drag a corner to move it; drag a midpoint to add a corner; click a corner to remove it.
  • Clear fieldWipes the polygon and returns to drawing mode so you can start over.

The walkthrough

  1. Find the field.Use the map’s search box or pinch and drag to your field. If you’ve typed your address into the form above the map, tap Locate address on map to fly there.
  2. Tap each corner of your field. Walk the boundary in order. The polygon fills in as you go.
  3. Close the shape. Tap your first corner again (or double-click). The acres are calculated automatically.
  4. Tweak the shape. In edit mode you can drag a corner to move it, drag a midpoint to add a corner, or click a corner to remove it.
  5. Wrong shape? Tap Clear field to wipe it and start over.

Already have an outline from another tool?

If you’ve already mapped this field in Google My Maps, FieldView, or a paper map, just describe what you have in the Timing or extra notesfield on the request form. We’ll reconcile it during the quote write-up — no need to re-draw it on our map.

If this is too fiddly on your phone

Honestly, drawing on a small touchscreen can be annoying. You don’t need to. Leave the map blank and we’ll outline the field for you when we work up the quote — that’s part of what we do anyway.
